How Choosing the Wrong Bedding Can Affect Your Night's Sleep

Did you know that there is no right way to make your bed, but there are a few common pitfalls that can make your bed feel less comfortable and could be damaging your quality of sleep? By avoiding these common bed-making mistakes and implementing these tips, you can have a comfortable and tidy bed that promotes better sleep and relaxation.
1. Not changing your bedding often enough. Most of the time life gets busy and we forget to clean our bedding as often as we should. Experts suggest that our bed sheets should be changed once a week, and more frequently if you share your bed with pets.
TIP: Make sure you have 2 or more sets of bed sheets for your bed. This will allow you to change your sheets quickly and not have to throw another load of laundry in right away.
2. Skimping on the quality of your sheets. You should always buy the best bed sheets within your budget. Without even realizing it, your bed sheets play a huge role in how well you sleep and contribute towards healthy skin.
TIP: Linen sheets tend to be a fan favorite. The long natural fibers tend to help regulate your body temperature as you sleep, with its breathability and moisture-wicking absorbency. Another excellent quality of linen bedding is that it gets softer and softer as it wears.
3. Buying something made of a fabric that does not work for your body. Often, we tend to purchase bedding based off a color or pattern or even the cost of the item, without thinking about if this will work with my body temperature, or allergies.
TIP: If you are a sweaty sleeper choose lighter, more natural fiber fabrics (Linen, Cotton) to keep you cool. If you are a freezing sleeper, choose a heavy fabric to keep you warm (fleece, flannel).
4. Using the wrong sized fitted sheets. We all know that folding fitting sheets can be a real nightmare, but so can using the wrong size sheet. One of the biggest issues is when the elastic is worn down and can slip off in the night, causing you to have a restless night’s sleep.
TIP: Look for sheets that have the same depth as your mattress, or use fitted sheets that have an elastic strap on the bottom to be sure it stays put.
